Cork Pharmaceutical To Sack 100 Employees.
Up to 100 staff are to be made redundant by Pharmaceutical behemoth, GlaxoSmithKline.
A statement this morning revealed that the company is experiencing falling sales volumes of the products manufactured at plant in Currabinny, and that it will have to make 100 workers redundant.
The company, which is one of the world's biggest pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, employs over 1,600 people across four sites in Cork, Waterford and Dublin.
There is speculation that these surprise redundancies are a sign of a growing decline in the Cork plant, which may lead to further losses of jobs in the future.
In contrast, ServiceSource, a specialised sales firm that aims to increase service share and revenues for high-tech healthcare companies, is planning to hire up to 100 new employees.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin said: “It is a real vote of confidence in Ireland and in Dublin that a highly innovative and vibrant company like ServiceSource chose to expand its operations here.
He added: “The positions created by this investment, along with those already in place, are all high-skilled and well-paid and require a young, enthusiastic and skilled workforce which Ireland has to offer.”
