Skye Murder Victim Named

The violent death of a 23-year-old outside Belfast's Skye nightclub in city centre Howard Street last night isn't the first time the premises has courted controversy.

While police have launched a murder inquiry after the man - named on Friday afternoon as Aaron Montgomery from Moira - died in the early hours of Friday morning, this recalls how detectives investigating the murder of a west Belfast shop assistant Grace Moore in 2006 appealed for help trying to piece together her movements after being last seen leaving Skye nightclub around 2am on November 18, 2006.

She was killed elsewhere, but in this latest case, it is believed the deceased was involved in an altercation that took place directly outside Skye nightclub in Howard Street at about 1.30am on Friday.

Police have said an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the man's death.

The street was cordoned off for a time following the incident and detectives have appealed for anyone who has any information to contact them.

The victim, Mr Montgomery, worked in the marketing department of the News Letter newspaper, at its offices in Portadown.

This afternoon, News Letter Managing Director Jean Long commented: "Although Aaron had only been with us for a relatively short period of time, he was a very popular and valued colleague," noting that he will be sorely missed by us all.
