Dramatic Rescue In House Blaze

Fire crews have been forced to fight their way through a fire to rescue a victim trapped in her bathroom.

The 37-year-old woman was saved from a burning house in south Belfast early on Tuesday morning.

The blaze at the house on Finaghy Road South was reported to the emergency services at about a quarter past midnight.

Firefighters removed the woman from the building and she was taken to hospital. A man from a neighbouring flat was also led to safety.

David Heyburn of the Fire and Rescue Service said crews battled past the fire in the living room.

"Crews entered using breathing apparatus into heavy smoke and fought their way past the fire in the living room which you had to pass to get to the bathroom," he said.

"There they found a 37-year-old woman and removed her to safety."

Meanwhile, a woman in her 30s has been arrested.
