Courtroom 'Bottle' Breaks Out Over Mongan Murder

There were unruly scenes in court this morning as three people appeared in court charged with the murder of John Mongan in west Belfast last week.

The magistrate threatened to clear the court after some in the public gallery hurled plastic bottles, threatening to turn the normally more sedate surroundings of the courtroom into a 'battleground'.

Mr Mongan, 30, a member of the Travelling community, was killed at his home in Fallswater Street in front of his pregnant wife last Thursday.

Christopher Stokes, 32, of Glengalliagh Park, Edward Stokes, 36, of Cornshell Fields, both Londonderry, and a youth, 15, were remanded in custody.

Edward Stokes is also accused of grievous bodily harm on Mr Mongan's wife, Julia.

Meanwhile, Mr Mongan's wife has given birth to a baby boy just days after her husband's brutal murder.

Grieving Julia Mongan gave birth to Sean Willie Preston Mongan at the Royal Victoria Hospital at 4.07pm on Saturday. The new born boy has been named the after his murdered father John.
