Hundreds of Jobs To Go At Jacobs

One of the best-known names in biscuit manufacturing is to make over 200 staff redundant.

Some 220 jobs are to be lost at Jacob Fruitfield, formerly Irish Biscuits, on the Belgard Road in Tallaght.

The announcement was made by the company chief executive at a staff meeting held on Friday afternoon.

He said that all biscuit production would cease at the plant by March 2009.

The job losses are all in the manufacturing side of the business.

The company makes approximately 10,000 tonnes of biscuits a year at the plant.

The staff were told the company is making €10m available for retraining staff to find alterative employment.
