Valentine's Night Concert Date For Kennedy

Singer/songwriter Brian Kennedy has a date at the Opera House on St Valentine's Night.

Brian – who has a new album, Interpretations, due out this month said: "I grew up on the Falls in Belfast listening to Perry Como's song For the Good Times and have recorded it on Interpretations as it was a ballad of great comfort at the time."

Appearing at the Opera House on February 14, 15 and 16 he said that the tracks on the eponymously-named album are his own interpretations of well-known songs which have been recommended by special people.

Altogether there are songs from the 1930s right up to the present day on the album. Brian's friend, Van Morrison's Brown-Eyed Girl is there along with Cole Porter's Night and Day and Dreaming My Dreams by Marianne Faithful.

But the singer-songwriter who arguably had the greatest influence on the young Kennedy is Joni Mitchell who wrote Clouds with which Judy Collins had such a striking hit.

He said: "Joni's album Blue had a profound and telling effect on me. When I first heard that production it was a key moment in my career and in my life. It was a dream come true when I was invited to go touring with her."

The singer is looking forward to the concerts and has even attracted a new audience of young and old being now remembered forever for his performance with You Raise Me Up at George Best's funeral.
