Severed Hand Reattached As Accused Faces Court

A 33-year-old man is due to appear in court today charged in connection with a sword attack at a pub in north Dublin in which a man's hand was severed.

The court date comes on the same day as news that surgeons successfully reattached the victim's hand - cut off in the samurai sword attack.

The accused, a Blanchardstown man, is due to appear before Dublin District Court this morning.

The attack happened in the Deputy Mayor pub in Meakestown around 9.15pm on Sunday night.

The 27-year-old victim, Peter Rogers, understood to be from Ballymun, is now in a stable condition in hospital, after having the surgery to reattach the hand.

The incident happened after a row broke out in the pub, which led to two men coming back to the pub 30 minutes later.

Mr Rodgers was first struck by a hammer before a second man took out a sword and severed his hand.

It is understood that a man is still being sought by gardaí in connection with the attack.
