Rape Accused Appears In Court

A Polish national now living in Northern Ireland has been charged with a series of sex offences.

The 24-year-man, Radoslaw Browarek, has been charged with the rape, false imprisonment and indecent assault of a girl in County Down.

He was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a girl in Dundrum early on Sunday.

The accused, of Church Avenue, Dundrum, spoke only to confirm he understood the charges made against him.

Meanwhile, a mother has hit out at the "disgracefully lenient" sentence given to a man who exposed himself to her daughter when she was six years old.

Scott Greer, 20, from Cliftonpark Avenue, north Belfast, was jailed for two years and nine months on Friday for a series of sex-related offences. However, he could be released in a matter of months.

The girl's mother said her daughter had been robbed of her childhood: "She's not the childish child she was, that was taken from her," she said.

At a previous court hearing, Greer pleaded guilty to 16 charges relating to inciting or attempting to incite gross indecency with a child as well as three counts of making indecent pictures of children.

He is to spend a further three years on probation when released from custody. He has also been placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

It has also just been revealed that progress on what is described as 'sex offender risk management' has been made since the murder of Attracta Harron, according to the Criminal Justice Inspection.

Mrs Harron was abducted and killed by Trevor Hamilton less than four months after he completed a rape sentence.

Kit Chivers, Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice, said he had reviewed the multi-agency arrangements in place following her murder.

"The PSNI has improved its sex offender risk management," he said.

Significant resources were being dedicated towards managing the risk posed by sex offenders, said Mr Chivers.

However, inspectors had found some police officers would benefit from additional training in how to undertake visits to offenders in the community, said the report.
