Security forces attacked in Londonderry

Security forces were attacked in Londonderry last night after being called out to examine a suspect package.

Police and soldiers were attacked by around 60 youths throwing petrol bombs, fireworks, bricks and bottles during a clearance operation in Fahan Street, which is in the in the predominantly nationalist Bogside area of the city.

Several police vehicles were damaged during the attack which took place at around 9.30pm.

The suspect package was later found to be a hoax.

Police suspect republican paramilitaries were behind an arson attack on a bar in Co Tyrone on Thursday night. A gang of men, who entered Katy Daly's bar in Strabane at around 8.30pm on Thursday evening, told customers to leave before they dowsed the interior of the pub with what was thought to be petrol and set it alight.

Kieran McLaughlin Arrest - PSNI Recovers Firearms
The PSNI has recovered three suspect firearms following yesterday's arrest of Kieran McLaughlin, who was apprehended at the end of a six-day manhunt at Fern Park in the Galliagh area of L'Derry city. The 58-year-old is suspected of the murder of 35-year-old Barry McCrory last Thursday morning at the victim's flat near Shipquay Street in the city.

Two Held Over Neil Lennon Death Threats
Two men have been detained in connection with parcel bombs sent to Celtic manager Neil Lennon. A 41-year-old man and another, aged 43, have been charged under the explosive substances act. They are expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday.
