Stormont Tea Dance Celebrates Royal Anniversary
It's not quite TV's 'Strictly Come Dancing' but will be one of the biggest ever 'tea dances' to take place in Northern Ireland.
Stormont, the location that last week hosted the Princess Royal to wave off the World Rally Championship drivers, is tonight the venue for a huge party in honour of Princess Anne's parents: the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.
Today is the diamond wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip and is being marked by MLA Basil McCrea and more than 500 people from throughout his constituency who are expected to dance the night away in Parliament Building's Great Hall.
"During the year, I attended a number of tea dances, not only did they make me very welcome but they were great fun," said Basil McCrea.
"With the 60th anniversary of the Royal Wedding, I thought the various dance groups might like to celebrate the event with a dance at Stormont and, given the historical significance, I thought the local historical societies might like to take part too.
"Her Majesty has been informed of the event and we have received a letter from Balmoral castle wishing us all the best for the evening," he concluded.
