Talks Adjourned In Moneypoint Pay Row
Talks between ESB management, a sub-contractor and the Technical, Engineering & Electrical Union at the Labour Relations Commission have been adjourned.
It is understood that no agreement was reached during several hours of talks, which were also described as 'difficult' in reports.
The dispute centres on unpaid wages for 200 Polish workers at the Moneypoint power station in Co Clare.
According to the TEEU, the workers - who were employed by the Polish company ZRE on the construction of a new power plant - have not been paid for six weeks and have now been told that their employment has been terminated.
The ESB has said that it has met all its obligations to the workers, including giving proper payments to Lentjes, the contractor which sub-contracted ZRE to carry out mechanical works on the refurbishment project.
However, the TEEU served strike notice on ESB and the two sub-contractors on Monday, following a breakdown in talks.
The TEEU is also opposed to a new sub-contractor being brought in and is insisting on an agreement being reached over the unpaid wages and job security for the Polish workers.
The union has also warned that a strike could disrupt power supplies.
Talks are due to resume at the LRC in Dublin at 2pm on Wednesday. It is understood that representatives from Lentjes will also be present at tomorrow's talks.
