Better Cross-Border Relationship Sought

A new group, commissioned by the North South Ministerial Council, is aiming for an enhanced cross-border relationship for both parts of Ireland.

Sean Oliver, the head of Sinn Fein's All-Ireland Department and Peter King, a former Ulster Unionist will be part of a four-member panel advising the group.

They have been appointed by the Stormont Executive to advise on the review which was originally promised in the St Andrews Agreement, but only given the go-ahead in July during the north-south summit in Armagh involving the Irish government and entire Stormont Executive.

Mr King, a barrister, was a former Ulster Unionist member of the Northern Ireland Forum for Peace and Reconciliation who dramatically walked out of the Stormont talks along with Jeffrey Donaldson, Arlene Foster and Peter Weir when their leader David Trimble decided to back the Good Friday Agreement.

Mr Oliver has been working on Sinn Fein’s campaign to break down the effects of partition and enhance all-Ireland structures.
