Assembly Set For Brief On Legislative Programme
The First and Deputy First Ministers are tabling a motion which will give the Assembly the opportunity to discuss the content of a major legislative announcement - expected to be on Thursday.
A total of 18 Bills are to be put before the Assembly during the current session and First Minister, Ian Paisley and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness have written to Speaker William Hay advising the Assembly of the Executive's legislative programme for the months up to July 2008.
In the letter, the ministers described it as a "vital and tangible stage" in the development and implementation of the Executive's objective of securing real benefits and improvements across the full range of its responsibilities.
The Bills include three already under consideration by the Assembly - covering the restructuring of the administration of libraries, taxi regulations and health matters.
Measures to improve the state pension, restructure education bodies and overhaul the regulation of charities are among the new Bills.
Others cover revision of the child maintenance system and improving the capacity to prevent the introduction and spread of animal diseases - including foot-and-mouth disease.
New procedures to allow for the registration of deaths will be of particular help to the families of "the disappeared", said the ministers.
