Man Charged As Schoolboy Stabbing Probe Stepped Up

Although no one has as yet been charged with murdering Belfast schoolboy Thomas Devlin, a man is now due in court in relation to the attack.

At a sitting of Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday the 24-year-old is to face charges of grievous bodily harm on one of the friends accompanying Thomas, who was fatally stabbed off north Belfast’s Somerton Road, near the loyalist Mount Vernon area, which police have been targeting in recent operations.

Meanwhile, a senior Progressive Unionist Party member, Billy Hutchinson has been released from police custody pending a report.

He was one of seven people held by police investigating the murder of Thomas Devlin in an unprovoked stabbing near the 15-year-old’s home in August 2005.
