High Court disqualifies two football club directors
Two directors of a Newry Football Club have been disqualified for a period of five years at the High Court in Belfast.
The High Court disqualified Trevor Denis Warde and James Coleman Rooney, both from Newry, as a result of their conduct in relation to Newry Town Football Club (1997) Limited.
The club, which began trading in or around August 1997, was wound up by the High Court on 9 March 2000 owing £68,193 to creditors.
Disqualifying Mr Warde and Mr Rooney, the Court found that they had caused the club to trade whilst insolvent from 28 February 1999 to 9 March 2000; tendered dud cheques; retained £65,157 due in taxes and contributions; and failed to prepare, produce and maintain accounts and statutory records.
On 20 June 2002 the Court disqualified Joseph Rice also from Newry for four years as a result of his conduct as a director of the same football club. This runs concurrently with a previous order which disqualified him for seven years in relation to his conduct as a director of J Rice (Contracts).
The cases were brought by the Insolvency Service of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment under the Companies (NI) Order 1989 which seeks to protect the public and trading community from the abuses of the privilege conferred by limited liability status.
The Department takes disqualification proceedings against those directors of failed companies deemed to have abused the privilege of limited liability status through negligence, incompetence or lack of commercial probity.

Man On Trial Over Ear-Biting Attack
A man has gone on trial accused of biting off another man's ear. John Totten, 27, of Milebush Close in Belfast, appeared at Belfast Crown Court charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. The incident occurred outside of the bar at the Bentra Golf Club, Whitehead, in July 2006.

Newry Business Directors Disqualified Over £700k Liabilities
Disqualification undertakings have been accepted from two directors of a Newry domestic property maintenance business. 51-year-old John McKenzie Taylor of Tamnaharry Hill, Mayobridge, Newry, was disqualified for seven years and George Christopher Taylor, 53, of Springfield Road, Warrenpoint, Newry, was disqualified for eight years.

Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Man Stabbed In Co Down
A 36-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Co Down. The 54-year-old victim was stabbed in the Manor Court area in Moira on Monday. He is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital. The woman is to appear at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The body of 55-year-old Richard Gerard Scullion was found at a property in the Millmount Court area on Monday, 09 July. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
