Horror Farm Fire Kills 100 Animals
A large number of animals have been burned to death on a Ballykelly farm.
Hysterical animals hampered attempts to put out the blaze and delayed attempts to rescue some of the cattle and pigs from the accidental hay shed fire.
Willie Lynch of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said it was a dreadful situation.
"You are trying to fight the fire, to hold it back, to keep these animals from being trapped," he said.
"The animals obviously were hysterical, the roars and the squeals of them was horrendous."
In the end, at least 25 cattle and 70 pigs perished in the outbreak at Tirmacoy Road farm, outside Ballykelly, on Sunday.
