Man charged with Lisburn murder

A 42-year-old County Antrim man has appeared in court charged with murder.

David Malcolm Ryan, formerly from Chapel Hill in Lisburn was accused of murdering 52-year-old Gerald Thompson.

Mr Thompson's body was discovered in the city on Friday. He had suffered severe head injuries.

At Lisburn Magistrate's Court on Monday, a detective sergeant said that when formally charged with the murder last night Mr Ryan had replied "no". However, the policeman said he believed he could connect the accused to the charge.

The court heard that the defendant had medical problems and had not been given his medication for several days.

The defence solicitor told the magistrate that Mr Ryan needed to be sent as soon as possible to the prison hospital.
