Work begins on final phase of Laganside development
Work at the £10m private sector funded Lanyon Quay project, one of the last pieces of the regeneration jigsaw around Belfast's Waterfront Hall, got under way today.
The project, which will provide the area with high quality restaurants a major bar and office accommodation, is set to provide 100 jobs during construction and, on completion, a further 250 jobs.
Andrew Creighton of Lanyon Quay Developments said the 75,000 sq feet of leisure and commercial space would be of an innovative design making it unique in Ireland.
He described it as "one of the last pieces of the regeneration jigsaw on this fabulous stretch of city centre river frontage".
Negotiations with a major national restaurant chain were already at an advanced stage and several local restaurateurs had expressed strong interest in the scheme. A major pub of some 25,000 sq feet has already been secured, it has been revealed.
Kyle Alexander, chief executive of the Laganside Corporation, said the area was now well recognised as providing a new business and social heartland for Belfast.
The new project would "serve that new commercial community and, with its impressive range of additional leisure opportunities, will also encourage others to visit."
