Pensioner Receives Suspended Sentence

A pensioner has been given a suspended sentence for driving while disqualified.

Raymond Paul, 67, from Heath Lodge Square in Belfast has been apprehended driving 48 times while disqualified in a litany of behind the wheel convictions that spans 30 years and contains over 200 recorded offences.

In 1990, Paul was disqualified from driving for 25 years.

Sentencing Paul, Judge Marrinan noted that there had been calls for the maximum custodial sentence for driving whilst disqualified to be increased from one to two years.

Paul was given a suspended sentence, disqualified from driving for another ten years and fined £100 for having no insurance.

PSNI Release Images Of Two Men Who Failed To Appear In Court
Police in Armagh have released images of two men who failed to appear in court for driving charges. A bench warrant was issued for Mr John Paul Savage on 16 January. PSNI Welcomes Sentencing Of Man And Woman In Craigavon
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of a man and woman at Craigavon Crown Court for a number of drugs-related and other offences. Donatas Kupstys (28) pleaded guilty to two counts of cultivating cannabis, two counts of dishonestly using electricity, driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

Renewed Push To Combat Careless Driving And Speeding
The Department for Infrastructure has renewed its partnership with the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership (NIRSP) to launch two road safety campaigns. The first campaign, which highlights the dangers of careless and inattentive driving, will return this year.

Man Arrested After Dangerous Driving Pursuit And Assault Allegations
A man is currently in police custody following a dangerous driving pursuit and subsequent arrest on suspicion of multiple offences. The incident began in the early hours of Saturday, 16th November, when police received a report of an assault in the Listooder Park area of Saintfield.
