Belfast to Heathrow route helps bmi passenger numbers
The Belfast to Heathrow route has helped airline bmi attract more passengers than ever before.
Airlines bmi and bmibaby saw passenger numbers rise by 32% in October, compared to the same month last year. Its Belfast to Heathrow route, meanwhile, saw passenger numbers increase by 66%.
Commenting on the figures, bmi Chief Executive Officer Austin Reid, said: “October’s year-on-year figures demonstrate that our positive response to a rapidly changing market continues to pay dividends. The introduction of a one way fare strategy offers travellers the flexibility and cost effectiveness they have come to expect in an era of low cost air travel, whilst continuing to provide a full service operation which is clearly still in great demand by the travelling public.
“Our autumn seat sale featured prices which, a few years ago, would have been unheard of in this sector of the business. The results were better than expected, with the public responding overwhelmingly to the offer. The increasing use of the website for bookings shows great potential for the future and is an area we shall continue to develop and promote."
“We remain confident in these challenging times, and continued growth shows that we are and will continue to be a major competitive force in the UK aviation industry," he added.
Other domestic services experiencing strong passenger growth included Heathrow to Manchester which showed a 52% increase, and Edinburgh which saw a 37% rise.
Services from London Heathrow to mainland European destinations also experienced growth, with Milan Linate up 59%, and Paris up 39%.

Belfast City helps bmi to record passenger figures
Belfast City Airport has helped bmi break its passenger record for the second consecutive month. The airline group carried 921,000 passengers carried in August, a 25% increase on the same period last previous year, with Belfast seeing a 29% passenger growth.

Aer Lingus Flying High From Belfast: Eventually!
Irish national carrier, Aer Lingus, has said it is pleased that is has achieved a 42% share on the Belfast to London Heathrow route. Seven months after it began flying between the two cities, the airline says it is well on its way to taking half the market share from BMI.

bmi to concentrate services at Belfast City
bmi has announced that it is to discontinue its Heathrow service from Belfast International Airport (BIA) and concentrate resources in Belfast City Airport. However, bmi will maintain a presence at BAI as bmibaby will be including Belfast International as a destination to be served from a new UK base to be announced shortly.

One of the UK's leading airlines, bmi, has strengthened its links with Northern Ireland by increasing its services between Belfast City and Heathrow airports. From 1 December until the end of March 2004 an additional flight will operate Mondays to Fridays, increasing the total number of weekday services from eight to nine.
