Pupils Win School Place Battle

Three pupils have won their case at the High Court in Belfast in order to gain admission to a school in Londonderry.

The High Court heard how the girls were refused places at St Cecilia's college after they had been allocated offers to attend the school. The court was told they were excluded because the school was oversubscribed.

The Judge was critical of the College's failure to check the accuracy of addresses when it was well aware of the practice of 'grannying' existed.

It has been alleged that families from Co Donegal were using grandparents' addresses in Derry, in order to secure grammar places.
