ACC McQuillan to act as Deputy Chief Constable

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has announced that Assistant Chief Constable Alan McQuillan is to act as Deputy Chief Constable.

The temporary reshuffle follows the departure of PSNI Deputy Chief Constable, Colin Cramphorn, who was appointed as Chief Constable for West Yorkshire, a post he took up today.

ACC McQuillan will hold the position until the vacant post of Deputy Chief Constable is filled – probably in February next year.

Today marked the final deadline for applications to the Policing Board and it is anticipated that interviews will take place during the week commencing 27 January.

Currently Assistant Chief Constable for the Urban Region, Mr McQuillan will take over his new responsibilities immediately with Chief Superintendent Maggie Hunter acting as ACC Urban.

Last April, Mr Cramphorn ruled himself out of the running for the job of PSNI Chief Constable, saying that "the board's aspiration is for a chief constable of a style and type that I could never be".
