£9 Million Investment To Create 80 Jobs In Belfast
Economy Minister Nigel Dodds has announced the arrival of California-based company 3PAR to Northern Ireland.
3PAR, a leading global provider of utility storage, has established a R&D centre in Belfast with over £1 million of support from Invest NI.
Assuming 3PAR achieves its planned objectives, the centre will create up to 80 high-value software development positions and deliver up to £7.5 million in salaries by 2010.
3PAR has hired an engineering team at its new development centre and is continuing its search for additional engineering talent.
Minister Dodds said the arrival of the Silicon Valley company was a tremendous achievement for the city, and is further proof of successful business relationships between the US and Northern Ireland.
The Minister said: "3PAR has realised the potential of Northern Ireland’s highly skilled workforce and the value this European location can add to its global expansion. Talented local people will benefit from the variety of high-quality career opportunities offered by 3PAR in Belfast, and will have an opportunity to share and develop those skills as they work closely with their R&D colleagues in the US.
"With ICT identified as a key growth sector for Northern Ireland, Invest NI has been actively targeting high-tech companies based in Silicon Valley as part of its inward investment strategy. This project is another tangible success of that strategy, which continues to bring benefits to the local economy and affirms the positive return on our commitment in the US marketplace for inward investment opportunities."
David Scott, President and CEO of 3PAR, added: "The availability of skilled graduates and experienced software engineers coupled with the Invest NI partnership were key factors in our decision to locate our new R&D centre in Belfast. We are thrilled to be able to position critical engineering resources closer to our European customers."

Older people from the Shankill area of Belfast are to benefit from a cash boost via the City Council's £5m Local Investment Fund. West Belfast Orange Hall has been awarded £50,000 to begin renovation works to improve accessibility within the building.

Community Projects Receive £1.1m
A total of 16 community groups across Belfast have received total funding of just over £1.1m from City Council. The funding boost is being delivered through the £5m Local Investment Fund (LIF), which is part of the council's wider Investment Programme for the city. The move brings the overall amount allocated through the fund to over £2.

20 community regeneration projects across Belfast have received funding totalling £1.25m from the City Council. The funding is part of £5m set aside for the Local Investment Fund (LIF). Just under £1.3m is earmarked each to the North, South, East and West of the city and a further £490,000 allocated for the Shankill area.
