Man Jailed Over Assault On Three-Year-Old Son
A 25-year-old man has been jailed for nine months for wilful assault and neglect of a child.
Belfast Crown Court heard that the man, who cannot be identified to protect the child, had been smoking cannabis at the time he smacked his three-year-old son.
The man was woken by his son crying after he fell down the stairs and the man smacked him so hard that he suffered over 40 bruises.
The man pleaded guilty to both charges of wilful assault and neglect of a child and the judge said a jail term was essential to show society’s abhorrence.

At Downpatrick Crown Court a 55-year-old man has been jailed for three years for fourteen counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency towards a child. Alan Burgess, from the Killinchy area, was sentenced to serve 3 years in custody followed by 2 years on probation.

A 60-year-old Fermanagh man has been sentenced at Dungannon Crown Court for seven counts of indecent assault against a child. Ronan Farrell was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period and has been disqualified from ever working with children.

L'Derry Man Jailed For Sexual Assault Of A Child
A 63-year-old L'Derry man has been sentenced to nine years for indecent assault on a male, sexual activity with a child and sexual assault at Antrim Crown Court. John Gerard Roddy will serve six years in custody and three years on license. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and will be subjected to a SOPO for ten years.
