Leading Portadown haulage company sold

It has been announced that the Portadown-based haulage company, Dukes Transport, has been sold.

The leading Northern Ireland haulage company was sold after its directors Winston and Ronnie Duke decided to retire.

The company has been bought by fellow Northern Ireland haulage firm, Montgomery Transport, in a deal which is expected to result in a consolidated turnover in the region of £70 million.

A Montgomery Transport statement said it had acquired Dukes in order to strengthen the company's long-term position in the marketplace and "create a significant opportunity to improve the quality and range of services to existing and potential customers".

The new group will have a combined fleet of 400 vehicles and 1,400 trailers with plans to build on the long-established name of Dukes.
