Jobs Loss At Newbridge Packaging Plant
The Quinn Group has announced its decision to close its packaging plant in County Kildare, resulting in the loss of 41 jobs.
The Newbridge plant has been in operation since 1987 and became part of the company in May 2004 following its acquisition of the Barlo Group plc.
It is understood it will continue some operations until the end of the year, however the majority of jobs will cease by the end of October.
The decision to close was made after a detailed review of the plant’s operation, which found it was not economically viable in today’s global market for packaging products.
Discussions between management and employee representatives are due to start soon.
The Quinn Group employs more than 6,500 people in areas such as cement, insurance, glass, hotels and radiators.
