Man Charged With East Belfast Murder

A 42-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a dismembered body in the Mount area of east Belfast.

The body of William David McClatchey, 34, from Taughmonagh in south Belfast was found in a bin in the courtyard at the rear of a block of flats at Pottinger House at around 6pm on Monday evening.

Forensic teams worked with police for several hours at the scene and a post mortem examination has been carried out, however police are not yet releasing any further details.

The discovery was made after police received a telephone call reporting suspicious activity in the area.

It is understood the victim had been recently living in England, and had been home to visit his family. He was due to return to England on Tuesday.

Police are also appealing for a man who rang Crimestoppers at 10:20am with details about the murder, to contact the incident room.
