Minister Gildernew Announces Payment Of Additional Aid

Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew MP MLA has confirmed that some £3 Million will be paid to farmers in additional aid by the end of September.

Announcing the aid, the Minister said: “As local Agriculture Minister I am committed to getting the best deal possible for our farmers and any additional cash large or small is to be welcomed. Under European regulations most farmers get a refund of compulsory modulation deducted from the first 5,000 euro (£3,388) of direct payments that they have received.”

The minister added: “This ‘Additional Aid’ refund can deliver a one-off payment of up to £128.54 into the farmers’ hand. I am pleased to confirm that my department will start making these payments, in respect of the 2006 scheme year, from late August. This will be completed to those who have already received a payment under the main scheme, by 30th September.”

The total amount of such aid payable is subject to a ceiling. To stay within the ceiling, a scale back of 5.16% is required this year compared to 5.52% for the previous year.
