Northern Ireland Increasing In Popularity
Northern Ireland is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination for people from other UK areas, according to a recent study.
Search engine Yell.com conducted a study examining which UK towns were most popular with people searching for a holiday on their site.
Out of the top 50 UK destinations, Northern Ireland ranked 19th but Belfast alone was the fifth most popular place for a getaway for people from London and the fourth for people from Edinburgh.
The Yell.com study was analysed for a year up to this summer and results show that places such as Devon and Cornwall finished behind Belfast.
In 2006 Belfast played host to 6.8 million visitors and 66% of visitors to Northern Ireland were from Britain.
Jonathan Smyth, destination-marketing manager with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, said that visitor numbers to Northern Ireland are continuing to rise and tourists are spending more while they are here.
A spokesperson for Yell.com said that their site data clearly shows that Northern Ireland is a popular holiday choice for people in the UK.
