£77M Lisburn Housing Strategy Launched

A £77 million housing strategy for Lisburn is being prepared to be launched in an attempt to halt an exodus of young families from the city.

Stormont Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie is launching the blueprint, and Jeffrey Donaldson has stressed it is fundamental in maintaining the area’s vibrancy.

“We have among the longest waiting lists for housing in Northern Ireland,” Mr Donaldson said.

“Many young families are unable to acquire a first home, or even rent a property, and we have lost many of them from the area because they are going elsewhere in search of a home.

“But we have worked closely with the Housing Executive to develop this strategy, and believe the Minister’s announcement will make a major contribution towards helping Lisburn develop the type of housing that reflects its status as a growing city.”
