NI Duo Set To Face World's Best

Rory McIlroy and Jonathan Caldwell have both been named in the Britain and Ireland Walker Cup side to take on the US at Royal County Down Golf Club.

Thousands of golf fans are set to ascend on the County Down course for the prestigious event on September 8-9 to view some of the best golfing talent in the world.

Caldwell is a member of the Clandeboye club in Bangor and was a vital member of the Irish side that won the European Team Championship at Western Gailes last month.

Holywood’s Rory McIlroy also takes his place in the line-up hoping to continue on from his recent Open success in Carnoustie where he collected the silver medal for the leading amateur.

Announcing the Walker Cup team, Tony Disley, Chairman of The R&A Selection Committee said that they have picked a strong team that is more than capable of defeating the Americans at Royal County Down.
