Dublin fire kills woman and injures four others

A 19-year-old woman has been killed and four others, including three children and one woman, have been injured in a house fire in Dublin.

The blaze on Oranmore Road in Ballyfermot appears to have started at the back of the house and broke out at around midnight.

The woman who died in the fire was at the house visiting a friend who was looking after her three-year-old son and her niece and nephew.

The injured woman is being treated for severe burns and smoke inhalation while her son, who hid under his bed for protection, suffered minor burns.

The owner of the house had only moved into the premises a few months ago and her nine-year-old niece and five-year-old nephew are also being treated for minor burns.

One of the neighbours who helped with the rescue had to be treated for burns.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire and the house remains sealed off for technical examinations.
