Racial discrimination claims double in Republic
The Equality Tribunal in the Republic of Ireland has said that the number of people claiming to have suffered racial discrimination in the workplace has doubled.
According to statistics released today, 314 people presented cases of discrimination to the Tribunal and 143 of those people have claimed to be racially abused which is more than twice the number of people than the previous year.
The Tribunal has dealt with 49 cases of disability discrimination and this is a figure that has also doubled on the previous year’s figure.
One promising aspect was the slight decrease in those claiming to be discriminated against on grounds of gender and age.
