Fire crews and police attacked in Londonderry

Fire crews and police have come under attack in Londonderry as they attended a fire at a car repair compound yesterday morning.

The blaze at the premises on Corrody Road in the Gobnascale area is understood to have started at around 4.00am yesterday morning and several cars and vehicle tyres were damaged.

Fire-fighters and police officers attending the incident came under attack by a crowd of youths throwing stones and bottles.

No one was injured and no arrests were made but police are treating the fire as arson and are asking for anyone who may have witnessed anything to come forward with information.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE

Minister Condemns Attacks On Fire Crews
Attacks on fire crews place their lives in danger and put communities at risk, said Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey today. Condemning a further spate of attacks on firefighters in Dungannon and Londonderry over the weekend, the Minister said it was absolutely unacceptable for anyone to assault emergency workers.

Police Right To Authorise Damage To Vehicle Blocking Fire Engine
A claim that police failed to make reasonable efforts to avoid having to damage a parked car which was blocking a fire engine on its way to a blaze in Portrush over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend has been rejected by the Police Ombudsman.

Fire crews attacked by stone throwing youths
A fire crew has come under attack while attending a blaze in County Londonderry yesterday evening. The fire service were called to the scene of a suspected arson attack at a farm building on the Whitehouse Road area of Coshquin, at around 10pm when the attack happened.
