Armagh suicide list sparks concern
Material published on the internet containing the names of suicide victims has prompted police and social workers to visit several homes in County Armagh.
Fears of a suicide pact have risen in the area following the self-inflicted death of three 15-year-old boys, all from Craigavon Senior High School and living in the Laurelvale and Tandragee area and yet another teenager took his own life just last week.
It is believed that the list of names has been emailed to a number of people and placed on a website.
Police and the Southern Health and Social Care Trust have said in a recent statement: “The material could make some vulnerable young people feel at risk. A number have been visited with advice on personal and internet safety.”
A PSNI spokeswoman also said: "Young people represent our future. It is the responsibility of everyone in society to try to keep them safe. This is particularly the case with regard to self harm."
It is understood the visits, which have taken place over recent days, have centred around the Armagh City area.
Suicide figures are on the increase in Northern Ireland and in 2006 there were 291 suicides.
