Weather warning for Northern Ireland

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning across Northern Ireland following reports of a mini tornado near Hillsborough in County Down.

Torrential downpours are likely to arrive in the next few hours with heavy, locally thundery showers.

The public are advised to take extra care as up to 25mm of rain could fall in places during a relatively short period of time.

A Met Office spokeswoman said: “Heavy rain is expected to affect all the counties in Northern Ireland, the rain is to fall from 1pm to 10pm tonight.”

The public are also advised to refer to the NI Rivers agency for advice on flooding and Trafficwatch (NI) for further advice on road conditions.
