Post mortems due on Wicklow trio

Post mortem examinations are being carried out on the bodies of three people who were found in a house in County Wicklow.

43-year-old Patrick Sleator was found lying beside his parents John Joe and Mary, both in their 80s at their large house near the village of Grangecon in County Wicklow.

Two rifles were recovered at the scene and gardai are treating the deaths as murder and suicide.

It is believed that a neighbour discovered the bodies at the family home at around 11am on Monday morning.

Last night a forensic investigation took place at the scene and their bodies were removed to Dublin City Morgue.

Prayers were said at St Joseph’s Church in Baltinglass today for the family. Friends, neighbours of the three members of the family attended the service.

A representative of the Sleator family issued a statement saying: “The tragic deaths of Mr John Joe Sleator, his wife Mary and son Patrick, has shocked their immediate family.

“The family need time to come to grips with this appalling tragedy and would ask the media to allow them some consideration and privacy so that they can deal with their grief and loss.”
