Two killed in plane crash
Two people have been killed and seven injured, three critically, after a plane crashed while trying to land in Co Galway.
The dead men were named as pilot Matt Masterson from County Dublin and Paul McNamee from Loughrea in County Galway.
The eight-seater Cessna Grand Caravan plane is understood to have missed the runway at Aerphort na Minna in Connemara at around 2.45pm yesterday.
The pilot and eight passengers were airlifted to hospital, where two people died.
It is believed they had just completed a day trip to the major offshore tourist attraction, the Aran islands, and an investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses said three passengers in the rear of the aircraft were able to walk away with minor injuries, though four other people had to be cut out of the wreckage. All seven injured were taken to Galway Regional Hospital.
