Man questioned about 1988 murder

A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988.

The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled.

A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.

Lisburn Bomb Attack Remembered
A memorial service for six soldiers killed by a Provisional IRA bomb in June 1988 in Lisburn has been held in the city, 31 years on from the atrocity. The British Army men had competed in the Lisburn Half Marathon and were returning to Thiepval Barracks when their vehicle was blown up in Market Square on 15 June 1988.

ITV 'IRA Footage' Was Video Game
ITV have admitted that footage of a 1988 IRA attack, film which they claimed was real, was actually taken from a video game. The coverage was included in an ITV documentary which discussed Gaddafi and the IRA and how deposed Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi sent weapons to the IRA in the mid-1980s.

Man remanded over pensioner murder
A County Antrim man has appeared in court today charged with the murder of a Belfast pensioner nearly 20 years ago. The body of Lily Smith, 66, was found at her home at Moveen House in Finaghy on the outskirts of Belfast, in 1988. She had been strangled.

Loyalist Killer Michael Stone Must Spend Longer In Prison
Notorious loyalist killer Michael Stone is to remain in prison until 2024 before he can be considered eligible for release, according to a new High Court ruling. Judges held that the Department of Justice (DoJ) had wrongly determined that the bomber would now be eligible to seek freedom from jail.
