Teenager in hospital following fire
A teenager is being treated in hospital after catching fire at a row of houses in north Belfast.
The incident happened following vandalism at a row of derelict houses in Jamaica Street in north Belfast’s Ardoyne area.
It is believed the 14-year-old was in contact with petrol before the incident, and he is now in a stable condition in hospital.
A PSNI spokesman revealed they were alerted that up to five derelict houses were alight at Jamaica Street at around 5:00pm on Monday. He also said they believed the fire was “started maliciously”.
The Housing Executive said the houses would not be demolished until the electricity and water have been disconnected.
They said: “We are working closely with NIE to have the electricity supply disconnected as a matter of urgency and will demolish the houses immediately this is done.
“In the interim, each individual house had been fully secured as soon as the tenant moved out and the properties have been checked on a daily basis following ongoing vandalism in this area.”
