Freezer victim 'died of head injuries'

The post mortem examination of a man who was found in a refrigeration unit in Galway has revealed he has died of severe head injuries.

He had also been badly beaten up and his hands were tied behind his back.

It is also understood the man, Patrick McCormack, 52, had been missing for five years and was last seen in Dublin in June 2002.

A murder investigation was launched last Wednesday after the man’s body was discovered in a cold storage unit at a fishmonger’s shop at St John’s Avenue.

He was found by the Iranian-born owner of the Mermaid Fish Shop on St John’s Avenue.

The post mortem had been delayed due to the frozen state of his body, which was believed to have been in a deep freeze for a ‘considerable’ period of time.
