Teenager shot in both ankles

A teenager is being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds to both ankles in what appears to have been a paramilitary style shooting in West Belfast last night.

The 18-year-old man was found in the garden of a house in Norglen Parade in the Ballymurphy area at 11pm.

Meanwhile a man is due to appear in court in Co Down today charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The man, 20, will appear before magistrates in Downpatrick following an arrest and the discovery of a gun in Silverstream Avenue in Bangor, Co Down, yesterday morning.

Acting Assistant Chief Constable Maggie Hunter linked the arrest to continuing loyalist paramilitary activity.
