Software company expansion promises jobs
A £6.6 million investment in a Belfast-based software development company could create 175 jobs.
The Invest Northern Ireland backed expansion of American owned Liberty Information Technology (LIT), will help the company develop new IT products and services.
Announcing the investment, Economy Minister, Nigel Dodds said: “The £6.6 million project is a further endorsement of the skills that Northern Ireland has to offer the international financial and IT sectors. We have a talented pool of graduate and experienced software professionals whose abilities are increasingly attracting and retaining investment from around the world.
Liberty is an internationally respected firm whose growing presence here will consolidate Northern Ireland’s position as a key location for inward investment. Today’s announcement will significantly benefit the economy by generating an expected additional £6.7 million a year in salaries by 2010. This is the fourth investment made by Liberty Mutual since 1997, and is testimony to the strength of the Northern Ireland product.”
Liberty Information Technology is owned by US insurance company Liberty Mutual Group. LIT provides software application development and maintenance services to the parent company.

Community Projects Receive £1.1m
A total of 16 community groups across Belfast have received total funding of just over £1.1m from City Council. The funding boost is being delivered through the £5m Local Investment Fund (LIF), which is part of the council's wider Investment Programme for the city. The move brings the overall amount allocated through the fund to over £2.

£1.25m For Belfast Community Projects
20 community regeneration projects across Belfast have received funding totalling £1.25m from the City Council. The funding is part of £5m set aside for the Local Investment Fund (LIF). Just under £1.3m is earmarked each to the North, South, East and West of the city and a further £490,000 allocated for the Shankill area.

The future of office accommodation for Northern Ireland’s 29,000 civil servants is to be a key feature in a major programme of reform and modernisation for public services. A Strategic Development Plan for the Civil Service estate is being prepared which includes an examination of new and more flexible ways of working.
