Ex-MP's daughter bailed over extradition

The daughter of a former MP who was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant has been released on bail pending an extradition hearing.

Roisin McAliskey, 35, was detained in Coalisland, County Tyrone and faces extradition charges to Germany over an IRA mortar attack on a British army barracks at Osnabruck in 1996.

Ms McAliskey is the daughter of former Mid-Ulster MP Bernadette McAliskey who faced a similar action in 1998.

Home Secretary at the time, Jack Straw, decided at the time she was too ill to be extradited.

Police officers, including detectives from the Extradition and International Mutual Assistance Unit, were involved in the operation to arrest the woman.

Ms McAliskey is due to appear in court again next month to face an extradition hearing and was released on bail of £2,500.
