19-year-old man accused of rape

A 19-year-old bricklayer has appeared in court accused of raping a young teenage girl in County Londonderry.

Paul Joseph Shields, of Crewe Road, is charged with raping and having unlawful carnal knowledge of the 13-year-old girl at Union Road carpark in Magherafelt on April 29.

He also faced charges of stealing a car and having no insurance.

Shields has been released on bail and ordered not to go within five miles of Magherafelt and due to appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court on 7 June.

A police constable said the accused had fully cooperated with police when he was interviewed and they had no objection to bail.

He also said the defendant made no reply when charged.

Three Teenagers Arrested Over Co Antrim Murder
Police investigating the murder of Nelson Cheung in Co Antrim earlier this month have arrested a three teenage girls. Mr Cheung, 65, died after he was stabbed in an attack on the Caddy Road on 8 January. It is understood Mr Cheung and his wife were attacked after their car was forced off the road.

Rape Case Accused Remanded
A 23-year-old Tyrone man has been remanded in custody charged with the rape and attempted murder of a woman at the weekend. The accused appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday morning over an incident that is alleged to have happened on the Old Castle Road in Newtownstewart early on Saturday.

Rape Accused For Court
A man has been charged with raping a woman in the Dungannon area at the weekend while another is to appear in court over a rape in Belfast last month. The 20-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting the victim during the early hours of Saturday morning and is due to appear at Dungannon Magistrates Court at the end of the month.

Lawyer considers client's 'overexposure'
The lawyer of a senior north Belfast loyalist has warned that he may report the Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Orde, and an unnamed Sunday newspaper editor to the Attorney General for over exposure of his client. Ihab Shoukri, from Alliance Road, was today remanded on continuing bail charged two counts of being a member of the UDA/UFF.

Rape accused denies charges
A 44-year-old man from Co Armagh has appeared in court today relating to the rape a girl in Lurgan two weeks ago. The accused, Thomas Roy Whitla of James Street, Lurgan, who appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court this morning, is charged with two counts of rape and one count of threatening to kill. He denies the charges.
