Family's grief one year on

On the first anniversary of the death of Catholic teenager Michael McIlveen, his family has spoken of their continuing grief and have had a reunion with ex-DUP mayor Councillor Tommy Nicholl.

The 15-year-old died after a vicious assault in Ballymena. Five teenagers have been remanded in custody charged with his murder.

The meeting between the victim's mother, Gina, and his uncle Francis, took place in People's Park, a neutral location in Ballymena.

Mr Nicholl was appalled at the murder, which happened months after he had launched the so-called Mayor's Initiative to combat what he believed was a sectarian crisis in the borough.

On Sunday evening, retracing her sons final footsteps, his mother said she felt Michael was with her.

This evening his family will release hundreds of white balloons in memory of their son.
