Alzheimer research meeting at UU Coleraine
The first meeting of a new local network centre of the Alzheimer Research Trust takes place at the University of Ulster’s Coleraine campus on Monday April 30.
The Northern Ireland network centre is headed by internationally distinguished researchers Dr Christian Holscher, a senior lecturer in Neuroscience in UU’s School of Biomedical Sciences and Dr Janet Johnston of Queen’s University. The network links UK's strongest centres of research to facilitate new collaborations and research projects into Alzheimer disease.
“Scientists and clinicians from Northern Ireland working in the field of Alzheimer research will attend the meeting to present their results and to plan future projects and collaborations,” said Dr Holscher.
“The meeting is a very important milestone for us and will influence our future Alzheimer research.”
Dr Holscher said that ART’s decision to fund the new research network in Northern Ireland was very significant.
“Considering the changing age profile of the population in Northern Ireland and the important position of Alzheimer disease within health care policy, the network will be the catalyst for bringing people together and lay the foundation for future projects, collaborations, funding, and public visibility.
"This in turn will help us develop a cluster of excellence in Northern Ireland in the very important area of Alzheimer research."
The meeting will be held in Room H215 at 10.30am.
