Antrim house fire 'suspicious'

Police are treating a house fire in Antrim as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to a house fire at Mallusk Gardens at 00:50am.

Extensive damage was caused to the living room and there was smoke damage to the property. No one was in the house at the time.

Police have appealed for anyone with information on the fire or who saw suspicious activity in the area to contact detectives in Antrim.

Fatal House Fire In Newtownards
A woman in her 30s has died in a fire at a house in Newtownards, Co. Down. The fire occurred at a house in Ilex Avenue at around 5.30pm and the woman is reported to have died at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is being conducted by police who have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

The popular festival of hot Americana, ChilliFest, has announced it will be back in Custom House Square, Belfast for 2011. Taking place under a (hopefully) blazing June sun from 25 June - 26 June, the festival is part of the annual Open House Festival in the city Belfast.

Belfast Hotel Plan Dropped: Report
A government-supported plan to build a hotel in central Belfast has been scrapped, the BBC has reported. Back in 2007, the Department for Social Development appointed Tullymore House Ltd as preferred developer for Armagh House in the city’s Ormeau Avenue, with plans to convert the building into an upmarket hotel.
