Two in court over north Belfast murder

Two men have appeared in court today charged with the murder of 25-year-old David Cupples in north Belfast two weeks ago.

William Alan Hill, 20, is accused of the murder of Mr Cupples while his brother, Edward David Hill, 18, is accused of disposing of clothes. The men, from Southport Court in Belfast, both denied the charges and were remanded in custody.

David Cupples, 25, from Farmhurst Way, in the Braniel estate in east Belfast was found with severe head injuries on the morning of Sunday December 22. He subsequently died on Christmas Day as a result of his injuries.

Mr Cupples had been dropped off at the Mater Hospital shortly before 7am and he had been heading to Girdwood army barracks where he was working as a civilian in the catering section. His body was discovered shortly afterwards on the nearby Cliftonpark Avenue.
