FBI 'most wanted' may be in Ireland
Police have been warned that one of America's most wanted men may be hiding out in the British Isles, and possibly with Irish republicans.
Irish-America gangster James 'Whitey' Bulger, 73, who is wanted in connection with 18 murders and a myriad of offences relating to organised crime, went on the run in 1995. The FBI is offering a $1,000,000 reward for information leading directly to the arrest.
Last September Bulger was seen by an acquaintance in Piccadilly Square in London and it believed that he fled to Ireland shortly after that sighting.
The FBI has notified police forces on both sides of the Irish Sea and it is believed that posters of will soon be distributed north and south of the border.
James Bulger is being sought for his role in numerous murders committed from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s and in connection with his leadership of an organized crime group that allegedly controlled extortion, drug deals, and other illegal activities in the Boston, Massachusetts, area. The FBI says that he has a violent temper and is known to carry a knife at all times.
Bulger is thought to be travelling with Catherine Elizabeth Greig who was indicted in 1997 for the harbouring of Bulger.
